Luka Šulić Closes His Australian Tour at Melbourne Recital Centre

You have probably heard Luka Šulić without knowing his name. He is one half of 2CELLOS, the man who proved a cello can handle AC/DC as happily as it does Bach. Now he is touring on his own, and Melbourne gets the finale: Luka Šulić plays the Melbourne Recital Centre on Monday 7 December 2026, backed by a nine-piece orchestra, in arguably the best-sounding room on the whole run.

Why the fuss

Šulić helped revolutionise the cello in modern pop culture, and this is his first Australian show since the 2CELLOS farewell tour in 2022. After stepping away from the duo to focus on his young family, the Croatian-Slovenian cellist pivoted to his own original compositions and classical arrangements, releasing the album 'Life' in 2024.

His taste runs from Beethoven to the pop producer Max Martin, and the live show reflects it. Expect reinterpreted versions of Michael Jackson's 'Smooth Criminal', AC/DC's 'Thunderstruck', Rihanna's 'We Found Love' and Kings of Leon's 'Use Somebody', alongside his own work. A cello doing 'Thunderstruck' should not work as well as it does.

He has also just finished a new record, and he is not pretending it was quick.

One honest bit of advice, and it matters more here than anywhere: pay up for the good seats.
